I think that passage applies to men as well as it did to women in many ways. In my opinion I think it applies to everyone because we all try to take the easy way when doing things sometimes. In some way or form we have all let someone else think for us. This passage is basically telling everyone in general what it means to be responsible of themself. I think so because both men and women sometimes have a hard time at finding their place in life and what she is stating fits both genders.
I think what Rich meant by the "ethical and intellectual contract" that exist between teacher and student was that teachers should try to look at every aspect of their students and try to get them to their full potential. I think it means that they should try see students views on things and understand where they are coming from. At the same time, in this contract students are agreeing to aim for the best and try to obtain as much knowledge possible from their teachers. Ethical and intellectual goes well together because the ethical part has to do with how important knowledge is to you and the intellecutal part is how you plan to use that given knowledge.
I totally agree with you, girl. This does to apply to both me and women. Sure, socitety views women and as someone who is mainly needed to take care of me, but this passage states that both men and women need to be independent and responisble.
ReplyDeleteI never realized until reading your post that in some way we tend to let other people think for us sometimes. I know I do. I also think that we do try to take the easy way out on most things, which makes me believe that is the reason why society portrays men and women in certain ways. Women should respond to every command her husband or boyfriend says and men should control their wives or girlfriends. I also agree that teachers should see their students views on things. Students are agreeing to learn as much as they can and teachers are agreeing to give as much knowledge as they can. That should be an understood thing when being a teacher or student.
ReplyDeleteNice job pointing out that responsibility is still a major factor still today. I believe every teacher does try to help their students, but seeing in the student's perspective can help the teacher understand the student better.
